Ursula’s backstory isn’t gone into but she’s presumably been Queen Mercelida’s friend for a while and trained through the military academy to reach her position as the Queen’s personal guard.
PERSONALITY: Ursula’s personality mostly revolves around her duty to the queen. This is both a matter of how it is and how she tries to present it. She does her best to be responsible and impartial in her duties, though it’s hard for her to remain completely so, usually because of how capricious and completely opposite of her personality that Queen Mercelida tends to be; even with as stoic as she usually is, she can’t help but be annoyed when the queen flies off without warning (literally, in some cases). Still, despite being the serious and more restrained of the pair, and having a very harsh manner in the line of duty, she’s actually quite easy-going much of the time and takes things in stride. Even when her queen does go off on her whims, Ursula is usually at least understanding towards her and willing to accommodate her, or in some cases, even go along with it.
A calm and dependable individual, Ursula is almost never flustered or taken by surprise by much. She’s mature enough to be able to put important matters first, like the queen’s safety over her state of dress when they run into some intruders on a beach while skinny-dipping, and knows not to sweat the small things. While it’s possible to surprise or fluster her, it’s no more than the ordinary person, and if anything, she’s much calmer and more reliable in a dangerous situation than the normal person, able to think on her feet and quickly evaluate threats without being bothered by more trivial facts, such as the aforementioned nudity. She’s also smart enough to be able to read the atmosphere and know when to stay out of the way or how to bend the rules if it will help things turn out for the better. A lot of this is shown in how she deals with matters of Queen Mercelida and events involving her. Despite protocol meaning she should have stopped Naoya from seeing the Queen because he was an intruder, she recognized who he was and what he meant to her and instead allowed him to meet her and watched without interrupting so that the two of them might better reach some closure as to their relationship. Similarly, she keeps out of the way when the Queen meets him at the beach, unobtrusively standing guard without her knowing.
She tends to be very understanding, which probably comes with the territory when it comes to being so close to such a capricious and lascivious queen. Ursula takes it all in stride, for the most part. Their relationship is a curious one, as it is not the strictly professional relationship of a queen and her head guard, but it can’t exactly be said to be something more specifically. A bit too formal to be friends, not romantic enough to be lovers, but far more personal and respected than just being a member of the harem, Ursula keeps something of a comfortable distance with the Queen, close enough to lean on and support her, but modestly not making any claims to a special relationship even if they do have one. Or at least she tries as much; though her basic nature is stoic and understanding, and she gives the queen a lot of support and acceptance even if she might personally disagree with it, she has in a few instances been caught slightly jealous of Mercelida’s attention towards other people, in the anime seeming rather forlorn when Mercelida interrupts an impending intercourse at the prospect of hot guys at the beach, and in the manga after the Queen half-joking tries to seduce the headmistress. In the latter case, Mercelida notices and teases her about it, but Ursula firmly denies it. Though it’s obvious she has feelings for the Queen, she knows she can’t have her all to herself, both since she’s the Queen and because she’s a succubus, so she generally suppresses these kinds of displays and even in most cases is only mildly annoyed or even amicable about the Queen’s lascivious tendencies. When it’s not quite as personal, just a bit of flirting or joking about it, Ursula is actually rather understanding and tends not to mind. Likewise, she’s rather easy going in her command when working with others or subordinates, acting as an approachable and reliable captain rather than using her position and power to place herself above others. She does tend to stay solitary though, usually remaining by the Queen’s side. “Companion” might be the best word to describe the relationship they have, close but not exclusive, with an unspoken deep trust between them, and of course a very deep sense of loyalty to the Queen, both as a subordinate and as a friend.
Over all, Ursula is a calm, dependable type who isn’t overly serious and is used to dealing with some rather outlandish characters.
ABILITIES: She’s a level 6 soldier and a level 8 swordsman in a world where 5 to 8 makes you a professional and even superior experts are somewhere between 12 and 15 (and 20 is basically just to show you can’t be beaten), so it can be expected she’s fairly strong and skilled with the sword, though not inhumanly so. Still, she’s able to keep up with magic users and such, so she’s fairly strong. Still, she doesn’t appear to have any particular special abilities herself.
SINS & VIRTUES: Ursula in general is a rather moderate person, not tending deeply to either side of the scale, but if it had to be listed, her most likely sins would be Envy, Lust and Pride, in that order, the first probably being quite more than the other two. Virtue wise, she has much Patience and Diligence in taking care of her duties, and has also Kindness and Generosity in regards to putting others first.
